The Zookeeper's Challenge

Step into the shoes of Jeff, a zookeeper who has found himself in quite a predicament. The cages are empty, and the animals have escaped. Your job is simple in theory but chaotic in practice: catch them all and return them to their enclosures before time runs out or you slip on a banana peel yourself.

Catch\ is a fast-paced platformer that throws you into a series of scrolling screens filled with three distinct types of escaped primates. Each ape type behaves differently, meaning you cannot rely on a single strategy for the entire game. You will need to adapt your approach as you move from level to level, dealing with chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas in their own unique ways.

Understanding the Apes

The chimpanzees are quick and tricky. They will not let you catch them by simply walking up to them. Instead, you must lure them with food first. Once they are busy eating, you can hit them with a baseball bat to knock them out. After they are subdued, you carry them in a sack on your back and bring them to the exit.

Orangutans move much slower, which might make them seem easier targets. You can hit them directly without needing to lure them first. However, do not be fooled by their sluggish pace. Orangutans are smart enough to move ladders around, blocking your paths and making it harder for you to reach the higher platforms where you need to go.

Gorillas are the most dangerous of the three. If they catch you, they will pick you up, which is a major setback. To subdue a gorilla, you cannot use a bat. Instead, you must lure both a male and a female gorilla together until they kiss. This unique mechanic adds a layer of puzzle-solving to the action, as you have to manage two dangerous animals at once while avoiding other hazards.

The game features 30 levels that scroll horizontally, requiring you to keep moving forward while managing your inventory of captured apes. As you progress, the levels expand to 37 if you use specific passwords to unlock them.

Falling from platforms is another risk, so watch your step carefully. Each level has a time limit, adding pressure to your movements.
