Wiraz is a high-energy racing game that puts you behind the wheel of fast vehicles on a top-down track. Instead of looking from the side or over your shoulder, the view comes straight down from above. This perspective makes it easy to see where other cars are heading and helps you plan your moves before you get close to them.
The game was created by Atares Sp. z o.o. and is known for its chaotic fun, especially when played with friends. You can race against the computer or challenge up to three other players on the same screen. Whether you are playing alone or in a group, the goal is always the same: finish the race before time runs out.
There are two main ways to play. In Cup mode, you get to choose which tracks you want to race on and how many laps each one will have. This is great if you want to practice specific corners or just pick your favorite courses. There are twelve different tracks available in this mode, offering a variety of shapes and challenges.
Arcade mode is more straightforward. You do not get to pick the tracks here. Instead, you go through a set sequence of four stages that get progressively harder. This mode is perfect for testing your skills quickly without spending time on menus.
Driving in Wiraz feels fast and slippery. The cars have a lot of momentum, so turning sharply takes some practice. You need to anticipate turns early because stopping quickly is difficult. The biggest challenge comes from other players. If you hit another car, your vehicle slows down significantly. This means that crashing into opponents is not just a minor annoyance; it can cost you the race.
Because collisions are so punishing, positioning is key. You want to stay ahead of the pack and avoid getting boxed in by other racers. If you are playing multiplayer, be careful about how you drive near your friends. A well-timed bump can slow down a rival, but you have to make sure you do not hit them accidentally.
The game is purely focused on racing action. There is no story or complex plot to follow. You just race, win, and try to beat your best time. This simplicity makes it easy to jump into and start playing immediately.
One interesting detail about Wiraz is that while it was made for the Amiga, there was never actually a version released for MS-DOS, despite what some older cover art might suggest. It remains a unique title in the history of home computer racing games.
