Bounce, Stun, and Survive

Get ready to bounce your way through a tricky grid in Boing! You control a character named BUBBLE, who hops across a playfield made of 36 steps arranged in a 6x6 grid. Your main goal is simple but challenging: turn every single step on. As you jump from one square to the next, you flip them on or off depending on the current level. It sounds easy enough until you have to worry about what else is moving around you.

The real challenge comes from two specific threats that make this game a tense puzzle of timing and positioning. First, there is the BUBBLE EATER. This enemy starts in the lower right corner and relentlessly chases you. If it catches you, you lose a BUBBLE (which is your life). Second, there is the PIN. This object descends from the top row toward the bottom. If the PIN hits you while you are on the grid, it is fatal to the BUBBLE. You must avoid it at all costs.

However, these enemies also provide the key to your survival. The game features a clever mechanic where you can use the PIN against the BUBBLE EATER. By positioning yourself carefully, you can lure the BUBBLE EATER directly under the oncoming PIN. When the PIN lands on the Eater, it gets stunned and begins to glow. During this brief window, the Eater is harmless, and you can even jump on top of him safely. This adds a layer of strategy that goes beyond simple avoidance; you have to actively herd enemies into traps.

The game is divided into 6 levels, each containing 5 waves of increasing difficulty. In the earlier stages, specifically levels 1 through 3, you can select which level to play using the Game Select switch. As you progress and win previous levels, you unlock the harder ones in levels 4 through 6. The speed and patterns of the enemies change as you advance, requiring quicker reflexes and better planning.

You start with 5 BUBBLES to spend on lives. The game keeps score, and for every 10,000 points you accumulate, you earn a bonus BUBBLE. This encourages you to play aggressively and clear steps efficiently rather than just playing defensively. The sense of satisfaction comes from clearing the entire grid while managing the chaos of the chasing Eater and the falling PIN. A related page worth opening after this one is Q Boing, especially if you want another nearby game from the same series.
