About Forest

Step into the shoes of a woodcutter trying to make a living in Forest. This action-packed title from 1983 throws you into a dense, dangerous woodland where survival depends on your speed and reflexes. You are not just walking through the woods; you are fighting to clear them.

Your main job is simple but difficult: cut down trees to support your family. To do this, you must move two screens to the right until you reach a tree. Once there, you need to hit it four times with your axe on each side to fell it completely. It sounds straightforward until you realize that the forest is not empty.

A witch has cast a spell on the animals here, turning them hostile toward you. As you navigate through a forest filled with hostile animals, you will encounter snakes, ducks, geese, and hogs. These creatures are constantly moving and looking for a fight. You can chop most of them with your axe, but there is one major exception: snakes. Snakes cannot be chopped. If you hit a snake with your axe, it does not work. Instead, you must jump over them to avoid getting hurt.

The challenge escalates quickly because the game restarts at a faster level after felling a tree. This means that as you progress, the animals move faster and the screen scrolls more rapidly. The pressure mounts with every tree you cut down, forcing you to react instantly rather than plan your next move.

There is another danger lurking above the canopy. A bird flies overhead, dropping stones on your head. If a stone hits you, it immobilizes the woodcutter for two seconds. In a game where speed is everything, being stuck in place for even a moment can be fatal. You have to keep an eye on the sky while watching your feet for approaching animals.

The atmosphere of Forest is tense and frantic. The constant threat of hostile creatures and falling stones creates a sense of urgency that keeps you on edge. It is not a relaxing walk in the park; it is a test of endurance and agility. The game speed increases as more trees are cut down, making each subsequent screen more dangerous than the last. A related page worth opening after this one is Cursed Forest 2, especially if you want another nearby game from the same series.

Publishers credited for this title include Tang's Electronic Co., Ltd., Sancho, and Goliath. Despite the conflicting information about who exactly published it, the gameplay remains consistent across versions: chop trees, dodge snakes, jump over obstacles, and survive the increasing pace.
